Discover Polo at Inanda
Inanda Polo School is a welcoming and family run polo school operating out of the Inanda Club in Sandton, Johannesburg. We offer riding and polo lessons to children and adults at the renowned Inanda Club. Our goal is to introduce riders to the sport of polo and share this exciting activity with more members of the Johannesburg community. At our riding school we work with children from the age of five learning the basics of riding, through to experienced players who want skills coaching.
Lesson Types
60 Minutes - Rental Horse Provided
A supportive start for adults learning to ride ā or rebuilding confidence.
Level 1/2 adult group lessons are designed for riders who are new to riding or want to strengthen the basics. Riders learn safe horsemanship, correct position and balance, and control at the walk before progressing into trotting and smooth transitions. Lessons are structured, friendly, and confidence-building.
Focus areas: safety, fundamentals, walk and trot work, transitions, arena control in a group
Eligibility: No riding experience required
90 Minutes - Rental Horse Provided, Foot Mallet Souvenir Included
A curated introduction to polo for first-timers who want a memorable taste of the sport ā and beautiful moments to capture.
Youāll start with a short polo orientation and a guided session on our wooden horse to learn safe position, balance and basic stick handling. Then youāll move into a coached riding session in the arena to experience the feel of riding like a polo player.

Polo technique and gameplay skills in a coached group setting.
Advanced polo group lessons focus on developing polo skills beyond basic riding: stick-and-ball accuracy, riding lines, turning and stopping for polo, spacing, right-of-way awareness, and tactical decision-making. This is a skills-focused session (with optional gameplay elements depending on the group), designed to make riders more effective and safer in chukkas.
Best for: chukka players who want better technique, strategy, confidence, and control

Perfect for kids who are new to riding or still building confidence.
Level 1/2 group lessons focus on the fundamentals of horsemanship and safe, happy riding. Riders learn correct position, balance and basic control at the walk, then progress into trotting and smooth transitions between gaits. Lessons take place in the arena with plenty of guidance and encouragement.
Focus areas: safety, position, steering, stopping, walk ā trot progression, confidence riding in a group

Faster, more tactical arena play for experienced riders.
Advanced arena chukkas are designed for riders who are already comfortable in chukka environments and want a higher tempo session with more tactical structure. Emphasis is on safe, smart play: riding lines, teamwork, pace control, and decision-making under pressure.
Ideal for: experienced chukka players, improving game intensity, refining tactics and execution

Your first arena chukkas in a safe, coached environment.
Beginner arena chukkas are for riders who have progressed beyond the basics and are ready to experience gameplay with support. Sessions are structured and supervised, with guidance on positioning, rules, safety, and game flow. The aim is confidence, awareness, and learning how to play ā not āfull speedā competition.
Ideal for: newer chukka players, riders transitioning from lessons/trotting chukkas, building match confidence
Eligibility:Coach approval required

For adults ready to canter and start moving toward polo play.
Level 3/4 adult group lessons focus on confident canter work, improved control and agility, and polo-specific riding foundations. Riders develop the skills needed to safely join supervised chukkas: riding lines, turning, spacing, speed control, and introductory stick-and-ball. Level 4 riders may begin trotting chukkas when ready.
Focus areas: canter control, rhythm and balance, polo riding skills, preparation for chukkas and polo lessons
Eligibility: Riders should be comfortable trotting independently (Level 1/2 completion or assessment)

One-on-one coaching tailored to your goals.
Private lessons are ideal for brand new riders, riders needing extra confidence, or those wanting faster progression through skills such as canter control, polo technique, or chukka readiness. Lessons are customised to your level and can include riding foundations, polo skills, stick-and-ball, or chukka preparation.
Best for: first-timers, riders returning after a break, targeted skill work, rapid progression

For kids who are ready to canter and begin polo gameplay.
Level 3/4 group lessons bridge the gap between competent riding and playing polo. Riders learn to canter confidently with control, improve balance at speed, and begin polo-specific skills and introductory stick-and-ball. Level 4 riders will start trotting chukkas under close supervision.
Focus areas: confident canter, control in open arena space, polo fundamentals, preparation for trotting chukkas
Eligibility: Riders should be comfortable trotting independently (Level 1/2 completion or assessment)
